Making humane shelters a reality.

We are a group of animal shelter volunteers, staff, and concerned citizens united by a shared commitment to improving animal welfare in D.C. After witnessing consistent shortcomings in shelter care at D.C.'s Humane Rescue Alliance (HRA)—including inadequate walks, lack of enrichment, and distressing euthanasia practices—we raised concerns, only to be dismissed. Many of us were terminated as volunteers.

Rather than stepping away, we formed this group to advocate for better conditions for both animals and staff in D.C.’s shelter system. With the immense amount of resources in the nation's capitol, we won't stop fighting for compassionate care, transparency, and accountability. We celebrate progress but won’t shy away from holding independent, contracted, and government entities accountable.

D.C. deserves a shelter system that reflects the vibrancy of its community, and we’re here to help make that a reality.
